The Sessions

In these TALK 2040 sessions each of you will give a talk to colleagues on your chosen topic.

For each session, the speaker should try and talk for at least 10 but no more than 15 minutes. The host will then highlight grammatical and pronunciation points for improvement.

Next is a 30 minute discussion for listeners to make comments or ask questions on the speaker’s topic. When each person speaks, points for improvement will be noted and highlighted in the final 10 minutes.

Please speak clearly. Before starting to speak state your first name to help the host identify you.

There is no pressure as a speaker! If you run out of steam before 10 minutes the host may ask you questions so as to elicit enough dialogue for assessment.

If as a listener you note language mistakes by the speaker, you can politely point them out after the host has finished. Noting each other’s mistakes is a good way to learn.

The number of sessions is equal to the number of participants, allowing everyone an opportunity to give a talk.

Video and Transcript

The meeting is via Zoom and will be recorded. If everyone is in the same room, please keep the microphone muted when not speaking to avoid feedback.

Within a few days of each session, the video and a transcript of the language points noted during the session will be available for viewing / download. Provided the host can identify you, the points highlighted in the transcript will be personalised.

Reviewing this material, you will benefit both from your personalised feedback and that of your colleagues.

Compilation Test

At the end of the series of sessions there will be a short test compiled from the points highlighted during each session. This can be done at your leisure. The test provides an excellent method for assessing your progress in improving your language skills.

Should you discover areas still in need of attention, you can review the videos and consult the transcripts to very soon master them.

Enjoy the sessions and consider them your arena for language exploration.
